I have worked in some tough environments to create some of the images you see on these pages. I have swung from cranes over cliff faces, walked for miles in underground mines, hung out of helicopter doors, been up to my waist in water and covered in dust as 200 tonne coal trucks roar past, I love it all.

Open Cut Mine Photographer
As an open cut mine photographer, with a reputation for capturing strong, dynamic images and vast experience shooting in all kinds of environments, I have cooperated with a host of associated companies and industries. Engineers, heavy machinery manufacturers, environmental control companies, electrical contractors and equipment manufacturers to name a few. Some of the Australian based and international companies I have worked with include: Coal Services Australia, Glencore, Rio Tinto, Thiess, Dyno Nobel, Hitachi Construction Machinery, Komatsu, Caterpillar Australia, White Energy, Centennial Coal, GHD and Cougar Drilling.
When photographing in mining and industrial environments, I understand the importance of working safely and efficiently to minimise any downtime in production. I can also provide flexible time frames should it be necessary to change or reschedule a project. Most people will never see the true size of machinery, equipment, plant and the environment involved in mining. I have been fortunate enough as an open cut mine photographer to create images that show the importance and diversity of the mining world and the amazing people whose lives are dedicated to it.
Underground Mining Photography

I have been traveling to mining locations to document or tell stories for the past 20 years and I am still passionate about the images I create and the opportunities I come by.
Creating clear and powerful images is no easy task when you are way underground with very little light and unrelenting conditions. The fact that I am comfortable in this environment allows me to create images that are both eye catching and “real”. I tend to shy away from using flash, not only because I often can’t take it underground due to the risks involved, but it tends to over-light everything and looks totally wrong. Underground Mine Photography isn’t the most glamorous of jobs but I truly do love the challenge and the satisfaction of creating a brilliant story with my pictures in such a tough environment.
Mines Rescue Photography
I have been fortunate enough to carry out Mines Rescue Photography at competitions on the surface, underground and in virtual reality scenarios. Emergency response is the primary function of Mines Rescue. As a legislated emergency service provider for the NSW coal industry, they are responsible for training and maintaining a competent brigade of rescue personnel. In the event of an incident at a mine site they provide expert advice and supply necessary equipment.
These photography projects have led to some of the most enjoyable, rewarding and also contemplative experiences in my career. When I spend days looking through a lens, focused on (pun intended) exactly what’s happening, I see what these few people are putting themselves in for. These guys and girls have put their hands up to be the ones running in, while everybody else is running out (or wishing they could). They have volunteered, practiced and trained to be the ones in harm’s way for the sake of others.
