Industrial Port Operations Photography for GrainCorp Carrington
Client: GrainCorp
Project: Port operations and site documentation photography
Location: Carrington Port, Newcastle NSW
Documenting Live Grain Loading Operations at Carrington Port
GrainCorp engaged Matt Shearer Creative to photograph live grain loading operations at its Carrington port facility, alongside broader site activity and infrastructure. The objective was to create an authentic image set reflecting real port operations, suitable for internal communications, reporting, and future content use.
The shoot was planned as a full-day assignment, with flexibility built in to capture both daytime operations and evening light as vessel loading progressed.
Scope of Work
Photography coverage included:
Live grain ship loading operations
Port infrastructure and material handling systems
Operational staff working across the site
Environmental context and scale of the port facility
General site activity to support a broader image library
The approach prioritised observational, unposed imagery, documenting work as it occurred rather than staged scenarios.
Working in an Active Port Environment
Carrington port is a live, safety-critical industrial environment. Access and movement on site were coordinated with GrainCorp personnel to ensure safe positioning during operations and uninterrupted workflow for crews.
Shooting was conducted with full awareness of operational constraints, heavy vehicle movement, and active loading schedules, ensuring imagery could be captured efficiently without disrupting port activity.
Outcome
The final image set provides GrainCorp with a practical, reusable library of port operations imagery that accurately reflects the scale, complexity, and working conditions of a live bulk handling facility.
The photographs are suitable for use across internal communications, reporting, presentations, and future brand or operational content, while maintaining an authentic and realistic representation of site operations.
