Australian Underground Mines Rescue Competition 2024
Documenting underground emergency response training and assessment
Client: Mines Rescue / Industry stakeholders
Project: Australian Underground Mines Rescue Competition
Location: Chain Valley Colliery, NSW
Date: October 2024
Industrial Photography was commissioned to document the 2024 Australian Underground Mines Rescue Competition, a structured assessment of underground emergency response capability involving mines rescue teams from New South Wales and Queensland.
The competition was conducted within controlled underground and surface environments designed to replicate realistic mining emergency conditions. Teams were assessed across a series of technical scenarios requiring the application of established rescue procedures, hazard awareness, communication protocols, and coordinated team response.
Scenarios included underground search and rescue, first aid response, fire-fighting, and hazard management tasks. Assessment focused on procedural accuracy, safety compliance, equipment use, and effective coordination under time-critical conditions.
Photography focused on accurately capturing operational environments, rescue equipment, and team interaction throughout the scenarios. Imagery was produced to reflect realistic working conditions and procedural execution, suitable for professional documentation, internal training reference, and industry communications.
This is a small sample of the images taken.
Produced for professional documentation and training use within the underground coal mining industry.
This project is part of my industrial photography work across mining, infrastructure, and heavy industry.
