Documenting Road Construction on the Hunter Expressway
Fulton Hogan commissioned Matt Shearer to photograph its Rutherford asphalt plant and road construction works on the Hunter Expressway.
The brief was to create a practical marketing image library showing the asphalt plant in operation, Fulton Hogan people at work, road paving crews, branded equipment and the overall scale of the project.
Photography was planned around active works, site inductions, PPE requirements and operational access, with an emphasis on authentic imagery that showed the process of the work rather than staged scenes.
Scope of Work
The project required a broad mix of construction and infrastructure photography, including:
Rutherford asphalt plant in operation
Exterior plant photography including Fulton Hogan signage
Staff working and interacting on site
Branded plant and equipment
Asphalt laying crews working on the Hunter Expressway
Road paving processes and active construction works
Strong landscape images showing the scale of the project
People working in correct PPE throughout the site
The brief specifically called for photography that communicated both the people behind the project and the construction activity taking place.
This project is part of my construction and infrastructure photography work across roads, rail, civil works and major project environments.
